If it's true these two didn't get along in real life, then their acting should be as lauded as their dancing

They sure fooled me. When I was a kid staying with my paternal grandparents I always wanted to watch The Barkleys of Broadway (1949) out of all their Astaire/Rogers videos because it was the only one in color. For this scene in particular, I remember how scandalized I was by Fred's legs when he twirled in his kilt, kind of like Gene Kelly in his underwear from Anchors Aweigh (1945).*

This might be the one musical film originally intended for Judy Garland where I can't be upset about her replacement.
