#290: Kick Out the Jams by MC5

1.04.2012

Kick Out the Jams by MC5 (1969)

Favorite Track(s): "Ramblin' Rose" and "Rocket Reducer No. 62 (Rama Lama Fa Fa Fa)" and "Motor City is Burning" and "I Want You Right Now" and "Starship"

Thoughts: (Pre-Listening) Way back in February of 2011 MC5 popped up on the list and I wasn't happy about it. I'd never heard of them! But then they totally brought the classic rock, and all was forgiven. Kick Out the Jams, a live album recorded over Devil's Night and Halloween in 1968. It's a good 153 spots closer to number 1, so I am excited to see what it has to offer.

(Post-Listening) As we all might have guessed, it rocked super hard and super loud. And I loved it. I don't know that I need to own it and listen to it all the time, but it's definitely a force of musical nature.

Is This Better Than Help!?: Sure!

Fred 'Sonic' Smith on guitar. The late Mr. Smith was Patti Smith's husband and father of her two children. You will encounter Ms. Smith at #44 on your Rolling Stone report with her album 'Horses'. Ms. Smith, of course, was the 2010 National Book Award non-fiction winner for 'Just Friends', her memoir of coming of age in New York City with her then unknown roommate Robert Mapplethorpe.

I know who Patti Smith is, but I was unaware that Fred was her husband. I'm looking forward to Horses too. Thanks, anon!
