sending this out into the universe (AKA the four people who read this blog)

I'm trying to really hard to locate something from my childhood.  I don't know what it's called, or really what it even was.

I think it was a cassette tape that I listened to all the time as a very little kid.  It was a sort of audiobook/musical.  The lead protagonist is a young girl, and I think she travels to some other world.  Rainbows may or may not be involved.  Synthesizers were absolutely involved.  There were songs.  But I have no idea what it's called!  Or if it was a music CD that happened to have a narrative, or an audiobook with songs.

Either way, it would have come out in the 80s or late 90s.  Any help (does this sound familiar to you in any way) would be appreciated. I've already asked my mom and she doesn't remember anything either!

I'd just really like to track down the title and then see if I can find it on Ebay.

Rainbow Brite had some audiobooks on cassette with songs. Could it have been one of those?

Rainbow Brite is all that sounds familiar to me. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
Also, I never knew any Christian things prior to age 14 so if it was something sold at a Family Christian Bookstore, I am not a reliable source of information.

Can you describe the set up for the audio book? It came with a cassette tape? It had a record that tucked into a flap at the back? You'd hear a little chime when it was time to turn the page? Any details like that to help jar our memories?

Wow! Thanks for the response! Both Rainbow Brite and Sillyville seem like they would be more memorable...I definitely remember listening to Wee Sings (we knew the creators) and Rainbow Brite is a brand, so I think I would have heard the name more. But what I am saying , I can't really remember anything they sang/said! I will check both though to make sure.

I really don't think there was a book with the tape. Then the images would have stuck with me. Now I'm second guessing if there were songs. There's definitely narrative, with different character voices, I think. Just a lot of magical special effect type sounds.

Thank you for your help/suggestions!
